Commitment to Safe Quality Patient Care
PSI is committed to continuously monitor and improve the safety and quality of care provided to its patients. To that end, beginning in January 2009, PSI asked its 63 inpatient facilities to report performance on 7 core measures identified by the Joint Commission, a national accreditor of healthcare organizations, as being key to better patient outcomes. The core measures include completion of a thorough admission screening within the first 72 hours of a patient’s stay, use of multiple antipsychotic medications and completion of a timely continuing care plan on discharge.
Admission Screening
This graph shows the percentage of patients who had admission screenings for violence risk, substance use, psychological trauma history and patient strengths completed within 72 hours of admission.
These outcomes will continue to be monitored in 2010 with the goal of continuous improvement in all 7 core measures.
In addition to the core measures, PSI also monitors facility performance against internally developed safety and quality measures, including unusual event, medication variance, elopement and re-admission rates. The same commitment to continuous improvement is employed with PSI’s internal measures as the externally reported core measures.
