This program is designed for the treatment of psychiatric disorders
that commonly occur in our aging population. On the Elder Adult Program
our patients are surrounded by a caring and supportive interdisciplinary
healthcare team of professionals. Our team of professionals understand
the aging process. We are able to address our patient's physical needs,
as well as their emotional problems. We take into consideration the flood
of feelings families undergo during this stormy time.
Patients appropriate for the Elder Adult Program may be experiencing
some of the following symptoms:
Major Depression
Anxiety and Stress Related Disorders
Aggressive Behavior
Hallucinations, and/or Psychotic Episodes
Suicidal/Homicidal Ideation and/or Attempts
Recreational Therapy
Medically Related Issues Specific to this Age Group

The program focuses on the strengths of each patient in a highly
supportive environment which encourages each individual to attain the
highest level of functioning possible.
Physical safety and individual treatment are paramount. The program
recognizes individual potential for behavioral change through education
and treatment. Family members and significant others are an integral
part of care and are included in all areas of treatment, including
discharge planning.
The team considers the individual's physical, emotional, social and
safety needs when recommending future care.

Discharge and Aftercare Planning

After discharge, patients may choose to take advantage of a wide variety
of follow-up and outpatient services offered by the hospital.
NOTE: Windmoor Healthcare is a designated Baker Act
receiving facility under the Florida Mental Health Law.
