The staff at West Oaks Hospital understands the concerns of the patient, family members, friends and physicians regarding the treatment process, the length of treatment and financial resources. We offer help in determining each individual's needs.

The family is involved in the treatment process, as we consider family participation to be a vital link in treatment and follow-up care. Referring professionals are invited to participate in treatment. With the patient's permission, they are continually informed of the patient's progress and the individual is referred back to the professional for continued follow-up care.

Service Overview

• Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is an inpatient setting for adults requiring the highest level of nursing care/crisis intervention.
• Inpatient care is for adults who are in need of 24-hour hospitalization. This program focuses on crisis intervention, assessment and medication stabilization.
• Dual Diagnosis care is for adults who have both acute psychiatric and chemical dependency issues. This program focuses on psychiatric stabilization and 12-step-based chemical dependency treatment.
• Partial Hospitalization (Day Treatment) is for adults who do not require the overnight stay. The program may be adapted to morning, afternoon and partial week.
• Intensive Outpatient (IOP) allows clients to attend group therapy during the evening hours, while enabling the client to return to the home and work environment.

Only a licensed physician can make the diagnosis of a mental health disorder and approve a hospital admission.

What is treatment?

Treatment begins with a complete assessment by a nurse and a physician. Based on this assessment, an individualized treatment plan is developed.

Treatment consists of individual and family therapy. Patients also participate in group therapy to focus on global issues. As appropriate, medication may be used as an adjunct to therapy. Nursing, therapy staff, physicians and the discharge planners work together in a collaborative effort to maximize the benefits of treatment.
