Adolescent Services
Treatment helped me with my problems and gave me the tools to cope with life.
Our adolescent services are specifically designed for children ages 13-17 who
are experiencing emotional and psychological problems which interfere with daily
life, physical health, family and/or school.
Problems may be expressed in a variety of ways, such as impulsive or defiant
behaviors, inability to concentrate, extreme or prolonged mood swings, use or
abuse of alcohol/drugs, or physical aggression towards self or others.
Programs
Treatment programs refer to the different levels of care provided in treatment. Programs vary in intensity from comprehensive inpatient care to day treatment. West Oaks Hospital provides a full range of programs, such as:
Inpatient care, which focuses on crisis intervention, assessment and
medication stabilization. It is a 24-hour, highly structured program.
Day Treatment care, which is provided for adolescents who are able to
remain in their home overnight, but require greater structure and direction
during the day.
Chemical Dependency, a specialty track that is included in our adolescent
programs. A chemical dependency counselor works closely with the adolescent
and the family to achieve a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle.
Only a licensed physician can make the diagnosis of a mental health disorder and approve a hospital admission.
The daily activities of all adolescent services are designed to increase problem
solving and communication skills and enhance self-esteem. The goals of the program
are reinforced through the following modalities:
- Individual therapy
- Family therapy
- Addiction education
- Group therapy
- Therapeutic recreation
- Multi-family group
- Parent education and support group
