1. How does one refer an individual to Three Rivers Behavioral Health?
We welcome referrals by medical or mental health care givers, case managers, employee assistance programs, family members, community agencies, hospitals, clergy, friends and patients themselves. 2. What can I expect at an initial assessment?
During the assessment, a licensed mental health professional will help you understand what type of care best meets your needs. You may then be referred to a therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist or other mental health professional for outpatient treatment, partial hospitalization or inpatient treatment. You and your family may be involved in deciding which treatment option is right for you.
3. What population does Three Rivers serve?
Three Rivers serves a wide age range in both the inpatient and outpatient programs. Our adolescent programs treat patients ages 11-17. We have specific programs for both adults and Seniors.
4. Will my insurance company pay for services at Three Rivers?
Three Rivers Behavioral Health works closely with patients, their families, agency representatives, insurance companies, EAPs, and managed care providers to determine all possible payment options. In addition, we will accept direct payment of fees for individuals who either do not have insurance or do not want to use their insurance. We are an approved provider for most major insurance companies and managed care plans.
5. What should I bring with me to Three Rivers Behavioral Health and what should I NOT bring?

6. Can I visit or call my loved one at any time while at Three Rivers?
Because patients spend a great deal of time in group therapy and meeting with their doctors and social workers, we do not want to interrupt their treatment unnecessarily. Therefore, we limit visiting hours and telephone hours to specific times each day. They are:

7. How long do patients typically remain at Three Rivers?
Each patient is treated on an individual basis. A treatment plan is developed for each patient, depending on their specific need. Consequently, the expected length of stay may vary from patient to patient.
8. How many physicians are on staff?
We have 7 Psychiatrists, 2 Internal Medicine Doctors and 3 Pediatricians that are on our active medical staff and accept patients. Once you are admitted, a psychiatrist will be assigned as your physician. You will see that doctor on a daily basis throughout your course of treatment while at Three Rivers.
9. How do adolescents maintain their school work while in treatment?
We feel it is important for our adolescents to keep up with their schoolwork while in the hospital. All adolescents admitted to Three Rivers are placed on homebound status and maintain their class work throughout their stay. We have a certified teacher on staff who conducts school Monday through Fridays. She works with the guidance counselors from each child's school to coordinate the patient's assignments.
10. Can Three Rivers handle chronic or aggressive patients?
Yes. Our facility has the capacity to accept the more challenging mental health client.
11. How do I make a referral to Three Rivers?
To make a referral to Three Rivers simply call our assessment office at 796-9911 or toll-free 1-866-796-9911. Our assessment office is staffed by highly trained psychiatric nurses, and master level social workers who will work with you to schedule an assessment or discuss what your next step could be.
12. Are patients allowed to watch television, listen to the radio/tape recorders and read books and magazines while in the hospital?
Patients may access a community TV, and may read (staff approved) books and magazines during times of the day when they are not involved in treatment related groups and activities. Those times of day are usually 6:00 am - 8:30 am, 6:00pm - 8:00 pm, and 9:30 pm - 11:00 pm seven days a week. No radios, headphones, or tape recorders are allowed.
13. Are private rooms available?
All rooms are semi-private. We may accommodate a private room request under certain circumstances as long as we have the bed availability to do so. However, we cannot guarantee a private room at any time.
14. Does Three Rivers make provisions for special dietary requirements?
Yes, Three Rivers is able to accommodate special dietary requirements. Three Rivers has a dietician who provides consults on proper diet and assists with all special dietary needs.
15. Should patients being admitted to Three Rivers bring along their regular medications?
If it is possible we would prefer that patients bring any medications that they are currently taking with them to the facility. Medications brought to the facility must be checked in during the admission process. Upon physician order they may be continued, and administered by a nurse, throughout your stay. Only medications ordered by your physician can be taken while you are a patient.
16. Are worship services provided?
Worship services are provided on the premises on Sunday mornings for those who wish to attend.
17. Is smoking allowed in the hospital?
Smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas. Patients must supply their own cigarettes. Matches and lighters are not allowed in the possession of patients for safety reasons. Wall lighters are provided in the smoking areas and staff are always available to assist.
18. Can patients receive mail while they are in the hospital?
Incoming mail is distributed daily. Letter and packages must be opened in front of staff to prevent dangerous items getting onto the unit. Outgoing mail is picked up daily.
19. Will my family be involved in my treatment while I am in the hospital?
With your consent or the consent of your parent/legal guardian, your family will be involved in your treatment. Typically, psychiatric and chemical dependency related illnesses have a significant effect upon the family. Your family will be encouraged to be involved in assessment, treatment planning, discharge planning and continuing care. Your social worker or other member of the treatment team will be available to your family to discuss your treatment, progress and other issues.
20. What if I don't want anyone to know I am in the hospital?
The confidentiality of patient information is very important. Three Rivers Behavioral Health has a responsibility to safeguard your privacy. We follow all applicable laws and regulations regarding your confidentiality.
21. Who does my laundry while I am in the hospital?
All patients are asked to help clean up after themselves while they are in the hospital. Patients are responsible for doing their own laundry by using a laundry room available on the unit. You may also send home clothes to be laundered by a family member. Staff are available to assist when needed.
22. Can I bring my own food/snacks with me?
For safety, sanitation, and dietary management purposes, patients and visitors are asked not to bring food items into the facility. Snacks are provided for patients by the facility. Food may not be kept in your room.
