John Costigan Center
Residential treatment programs are a longer-term treatment program (lasting
from 3-12 months or more) for children and adolescents with long-standing behavioral
health problems. The programs offer physician-led, multi-disciplinary treatment
that addresses overall medical, psychiatric, social and academic needs of the
child. Residential programs offer a balance of therapies and activities in a
safe, structured setting.
Streamwood Residential Center at the John Costigan Center is an 85-bed facility
that offers five residential treatment programs for adolescent males and females
ages 12-21.
These Programs Include:
- General Residential Programs - There are two separate programs divided by
gender. One program serves adolescent males, the other females aged 13-17.
These programs treat individuals who have been abused, neglected, experienced
extreme violence, and abandonment with impairment in functioning in school
and the community. The length of programming treatment is 6-12 months based
on the individual needs of the patient.
- Special Needs Residential Program - These programs are separated by gender,
serving male and female adolescents aged 13-19 with severe primary psychiatric
disorders in conjunction with developmental/cognitive disturbances. This may
include mental retardation, severe learning disorders, neuropsychiatric and
pervasive developmental disorders. The length of program treatment is variable
based on individual need.
- Transitional Residential Program - This program is designed to treat adolescent
males ages 12-17 with a history of long-standing disturbances such as abuse,
neglect, extreme violence, and abandonment in the areas of family and/or surrogate
family functioning. In addition, individuals must have a pattern of failed
placement. The length of program treatment is 12-18 months based on the individual
needs of the patient.
