Active Duty Military Unit Dedicated on August 13th
August 13, 2008
Congressman J. Randy Forbes officially opened the Active Duty Military Unit with a ribbon cutting dedication ceremony. Sixty plus government and military officials were in attendance to hear the Congressman's remarks. Colonel Donna Diamond also spoke on the partnership formed between Fort Lee and Poplar Springs to help with their mission to treat the wounded warrior. As Virginia's only civilian hospital with an exclusive active duty military unit, we are committed to expanding our role as the behavioral solution to military families everywhere. Poplar Springs has served Virginia for over 35 years and we are proud to announce further developments in our comprehensive array of mental health services.
The completion of this construction project is meaningful for two distinct reasons. This new unit will allow our military a new upgraded living environment to focus on their unique programming needs, and will provide additional space and amenities in order for our military to focus on their treatment goals during their stay. The 16 bed unit will also complement the additional 183 existing adult and adolescent licensed beds at Poplar Springs dedicated solely to varying levels of behavioral health services. These new beds will allow Poplar Springs to partner with the military by providing care for military with intensive and acute mental health issues in a bed-deprived market.
