The Pointe Residential Treatment Center

About The Pointe Residential Treatment Center

The Pointe Residential Treatment Center is a private 108-bed facility, fully accredited by JCAHO, and is licensed by the Children, Youth and Family Department. The Pointe is approved for Medicaid and other insurance carriers. Every program is led by our qualified and competent medical staff in psychiatry. We offer:

  • Children's Residential Treatment Services
  • Boys Adolescent Residential Treatment Services
  • Boys Adolescent Sexually Aggressive Youth Program
  • Girls Adolescent Residential Treatment Services

Evaluation and Diagnostic Process

The Pointe Residential Treatment Center utilizes the biopsychosocial model of modern psychiatric treatment, which holds that mental disorders are the result of a complex interaction of biological, psychological and social factors. Upon admission, a comprehensive evaluation of these factors is made by the treatment team assigned to the resident. After diagnosis, the team develops an individualized treatment plan for the resident.

The Pointe recognizes that each resident has different problems — problems that must be met on an individualized basis. After a thorough assessment, our professionals will develop a plan of treatment specific to the resident's needs.

The Pointe's programs are long-term, and designed to assist youth in developing more effective daily management skills. These cognitive-behavioral programs are based upon a level system of privileges and rewards for appropriate behavior.

Treatment Components

Various kinds of treatment are used to address the resident's major issues. Treatments may include medications, individual therapy, group therapy, and special education experiences, in addition to other activity therapies, which may include art, music, and recreation. The types and frequencies of these treatment components are determined by each individual diagnosis.

The resident's treatment plan will include several different therapies and educational sessions. In addition to individual and group psychotherapy, music, art and occupational therapies provide opportunities for self expression. The adolescent or child will also be involved in didactic sessions, which educate them about mental health, substance abuse, behavioral disorders and interpersonal relationships.

Family Treatment

Family is an essential part of growth and sense of well being and includes family therapies, which address the stresses that prompted residential treatment. Our treatment seeks to reestablish proper roles, goals and perspectives within the family.

Adventure Programming

Adventure activities are challenging, group problem-solving exercises that combine active involvement including a ropes course and swimming pool. Outings from the facility for nature hikes, mountain climbing and rappelling allow the resident to think about themselves as part of a group, as well as part of a world with which they are struggling to achieve a new relationship.

Education

School for adolescents and children is provided on site through the Gadsden Independent School District.

Referrals

Referrals are encouraged from physicians, mental health professionals, general and psychiatric hospitals, social service agencies, mental health centers, corporate medical and employee assistance departments and managed health organizations.

Communication with the referral source during the resident's participation and for discharge planning is an integral part of the treatment course.
