The Peak is located on the border of New Mexico and El Paso, Texas. It is approximately 40 minutes from Las Cruces, N.M., 15 minutes from downtown El Paso, and 20 minutes from the El Paso International Airport.

The Peak Psychiatric Hospital can schedule face-to-face meetings for problem assessment. The initial assessment is offered at no charge. During the session, hospital staff will recommend a plan of action or treatment. Should the client require our services, the hospital's financial policies and charges will be explained. If the services are not appropriate, the staff will make referrals to other sources of help.

Evaluation and Diagnostic Process

The Peak Psychiatric Hospital utilizes the biopsychosocial model of modern psychiatric treatment, which holds that mental disorders are the result of a complex interaction of biological, psychological and social factors. Upon admission, a comprehensive evaluation of these factors is made by the treatment team assigned to the resident. After diagnosis, the team develops an individualized treatment plan for the patient.

Treatment Components

Various kinds of treatment are used to alleviate the patient's major disorders, symptoms and problems. Treatments may include medications, individual, group and family therapy, and special educational experiences, in addition to other activity therapies, which may include art, music and recreation. The types and frequencies of these treatment components are determined by each individual diagnosis.

Family Treatment

Family is an essential part of growth and sense of well being, and includes marital and family therapies, which address the stresses that prompted residential treatment. Our treatment seeks to reestablish proper roles, goals and perspectives within the family.

Adventure Programming

Adventure activities are challenging, group problem-solving exercises that combine active involvement including a ropes course and swimming pool. Outings from the hospital for nature hikes, mountain climbing and rappelling allow the resident to think about themselves as part of a group as well as part of a world with which they are struggling to achieve a new relationship.
