Children's Residential Treatment

The Child Residential Treatment Program helps children develop improved boundaries, express feelings appropriately, increase self-esteem, improve anger management and develop acceptable social skills.

The Child Residential Program is for children ages 4-12 who are unable to maintain stability at home or in school. Our staff monitors and documents a child's response to treatment and medication interventions.

Diagnosis treated:

  • Episodic Dyscontrol/Intermittent Explosive Disorders
  • Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Sexual aggression
  • Major depression
  • Psychotic episodes

The Residential Program also offers:

  • Daily academic attendance
  • Dietary consultations
  • 24-hour nursing care
  • Play therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Aftercare planning

Discharge planning begins the day of admission when the treatment team develops the initial discharge criteria and estimates the length of stay. Throughout the child's stay, the treatment team evaluates the progress made and determines what setting is needed following treatment to maintain therapeutic gains and to minimize risk of regression.

Laurel Ridge School

The Laurel Ridge School provides a full K-12 program including regular education, as well as special educational and vocational training. During the school day, patients receive remedial help in basic academic subjects, attend vocational training or become involved in therapeutic elective subjects ranging from drug education to
theater arts.

The school program is provided jointly by San Antonio's Northeast Independent School District and Laurel Ridge. The Laurel Ridge Treatment Center School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Family Involvement

Family involvement is an integral component of the program at Laurel Ridge. Laurel Ridge provides a combination of weekly family therapy sessions provided by professionals in the family's home community and intensive family therapy sessions at the hospital for families living outside the immediate San Antonio area. We have clinicians experienced in working with families who reside long distances from the facility.

Therapeutic, Campus-style Environment

The Laurel Ridge community is set within winding oak paths and throughout the campus are living areas, recreational areas, a gymnasium, swimming facilities and dining facilities. The educational/vocational building has numerous classrooms, a library and a computer lab.
