Children's Sexually Reactive Tract

Laurel Ridge's program accepts both males and females ages 4 - 12 who exhibit sexually inappropriate behaviors, along with associated psychological, emotional, social or learning disabilities. Children may also experience Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, including the accompanying symptoms of depression, aggression or impulsiveness.

Admissions Criteria

  • Has a history of sexual abuse/molestation
  • Demonstrates inappropriate preoccupations with sexual matters
  • Has a history of sexual acting out behavior with other children
  • Relates to others in a sexually inappropriate manner
  • Displays impulsive sexually acting out behaviors
  • May have been adjudicated for sexual behaviors

The Program

The goal of the Sexually Reactive Program is to help remedy sexual abuse trauma and to prevent sexually maladaptive behavior. The program provides a wide range of highly structured therapeutic activities designed to shape positive and productive behaviors through practice, feedback and positive reinforcement.

Therapies assist children in learning positive ways to manage their impulses and behaviors.

Our program encourages children to develop positive relationships without sexual overtones. We place a particular emphasis on recognizing and respecting personal boundaries.

Our treatment aims to meet the specific needs and goals of each child with the development, integration and evaluation of a Master Treatment Plan. Family participation and commitment to the development and implementation of the treatment plan are integral to the child's success.

Discharge and Aftercare

Discharge planning begins on the day of admission when the physician develops the initial discharge criteria and estimates the length of stay. The treatment team evaluates any progress made and determines the best transitional treatment needed to maintain therapeutic gains while minimizing the risk of regression. The treatment team meets with the family upon admission and addresses feelings and concerns about their child's discharge.
