Items Not to Bring

DRESS CODE:

There will not be any sharing of clothes or other personal property. Property that is lent will be collected by staff and will not be returned until discharge and the patient will be placed on Contraband Precaution and their personal belongings removed.

GIRLS

  • Must wear a bra and underwear at all times and no cleavage should be visible
  • No short shorts, tank tops, A-shirts, tube tops, tight or see through clothing may be worn at anytime
  • Underwear is not to show when clothing is worn
  • One piece bathing suits are to be worn only for swimming. Bathing suits must be covered by a tee-shirt when not swimming. Shirts, shorts, flip flop shoes must be worn over bathing suit when going to and coming from swimming
  • No tops that expose the midriff
  • No thong under wear
  • No revealing pajamas
  • No hair extensions
  • No belts
  • No hats, headbands, bandanas du rags, or other accessories worn on the head (religious garbs are permitted)
  • Shorts and skirts should be long enough to cover the leg to at least the mid-thigh area

BOYS

  • Wear their shirt buttoned
  • Underwear is not to show when any pants or shorts are worn
  • No short shorts, tank tops, A-shirts, tight or see-through clothing
  • No sagging clothes
  • No belts
  • Shorts should be long enough to cover the leg to at least the mid-thigh area
  • No hats, headbands, bandanas, du rags, or other accessories worn on the head

EVERYONE

CLOTHING MUST NOT BE EXCHANGED WITH OR BORROWED FROM OTHER PATIENTS

  • Shoes must be worn off the unit at all times and to all on-unit activities
  • Slippers may be worn before the end of AM hygiene and after the start of PM hygiene on the Unit
  • No clothing with writing or drawing by pencil or ink may be worn
  • Torn clothing may not be worn
  • No skin or underwear may show between shirts and pants
  • Clothing which displays violence, skulls, sex, alcohol, drugs or gang-related items is not allowed
  • No jewelry, except a rubber or leather frame watch
  • No hats, head bands, and bandanas can be worn inside the hospital
  • Clothing that is considered to be gang-related will be considered contraband and it will be collected by staff and will not be returned until discharge. The patient will be placed on Contraband Precaution.
  • No sunglasses inside the hospital
  • No hooded clothing or jackets
  • No high heel shoes or boots
  • Gym shoes must be worn to the gym and on recreation yard.
  • Pants must fit properly
  • For safety reasons patients who are repeatedly (after 3 requests) non-compliant with the dress code will be placed on Contraband Precaution and personal clothing restricted and they will be given Unit Restriction while on Contraband Precaution
  • No belts are permitted
  • Unit Directors, Director of Education, and Therapists have final discretion as to what is appropriate

**Please note: If a patient purchases an item listed on the contraband/restricted items list during a shopping trip, their shopping privilege will be restricted for 30 days. And the items will be taken up and/or returned to the store if item is undamaged.
