Geriatric Inpatient Psychiatric Program
Havenwyck Hospital manages and operates a 20-bed
licensed Geriatric Inpatient Psychiatric Unit located at POH Medical Center
in downtown Pontiac. Geriatric-Psych clients reside in a secure unit that provides
acute inpatient hospitalization in a safe therapeutic environment.
Treatment in this program is provided by a team
of licensed professionals who have experience in the assessment and treatment
of older adults. The program accepts adults 55 years and older who have serious
psychiatric and/or substance problems; who are a danger to themselves or others;
who unsuccessfully complete an outpatient treatment program and has serious
family and/or interpersonal problems. The program, under the direction of the
attending psychiatrist, is designed as a multi-disciplinary approach to treatment
and encompasses a variety of therapies including individual, group, family activities
and psychopharmacology.
Mission
Our mission is to provide the highest quality
assessment, diagnoses and treatment services for older adults with acute psychiatric
and coexisting medical problems which require inpatient treatment in an environment
suited to the special needs of this population with regard for the rights and
dignity of older adults.
Goal
The primary goal is to provide rapid assessment,
diagnosis and treatment, arrange the most appropriate disposition, and ensure
follow-up treatment with a focus on minimizing dysfunction and maximizing quality
of life.
The program is open 24-hours a day, 7 days a
week.
