One of Fort Lauderdale Hospital's most dynamic programs is the Intensive Outpatient
Program for Chemical Dependency (IOP-CD). This program operates Monday, Wednesday,
and Friday evenings, providing patients with three hours of structured group
therapy and education regarding the disease of addiction. Treatment in this
program is provided by a dedicated therapist with a specialty in addictions.
Group format is utilized with individual sessions available on an as-needed
basis. The program utilizes the 12-step philosophical model for recovery. Emphasis
is made on use of community based 12-step recovery for continued maintenance
of sobriety.
The CD-IOP is an excellent initial treatment option for individuals who are
having difficulty maintaining continuous sobriety with 12-step alone. The program
also serves as a wonderful adjunct to the inpatient program, providing an option
for continued support and treatment for those individuals whose commitment to
work, school, or family creates a hardship for continued daytime or inpatient
treatment.
