Fairfax provides specialized treatment for children ages 4 to 12 with psychological, emotional, and behavioral problems. The treatment philosophy with children is to identify the key elements of the current crisis by exploring the family, academic and social environments involved. Our professionals will then target those areas that are going to be critical in the stabilization process such as:
- Self-endangering behaviors
- Excessive conflicts with siblings or peers
- Poor impulse control
- Out of control behavior
- Chronic/ongoing school difficulties
Inpatient Treatment
Our clinical program staff works closely with the patient, family, and community professionals to plan an aggressive course of treatment which allows transition into a less restrictive level of treatment as quickly as possible. Our therapeutic programming includes individual, group, and family therapy with emphasis on:
- Ability to relate successfully with others
- Appropriate behaviors for constructive daily living
- Anger management
- Positive communication skills
- Treatment tailored to level of functioning and degree of illness
Partial Hospitalization
- A child who requires intensive, stable support and structure, but does not require 24 hour supervision is appropriate for partial hospitalization.
- This level of care may be appropriate when outpatient treatment is not sufficient to contain the risk, or as a transition from inpatient treatment to help reintegrate the child into a home environment.
- Treatment is available up to 8 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- The child's schedule is flexible and is determined by clinical needs and the requirements of school/home life.
