Adult Psychiatric Services

For more information, please download our Adult Services Handbook.

Fairfax provides intensive psychiatric treatment for individuals 18 and over dealing with psychological, emotional, and medical psychiatric issues. Our philosophy of treatment is to consider individual strengths, areas of difficulty and situational factors which contribute to the current crisis. Our interdisciplinary team of treatment specialists will then target those areas that are going to be critical in the stabilization process such as:

  • Medication evaluation and trials
  • Relationships that may be contributing to the current crisis
  • Environments that may not be providing the appropriate amount of structure
  • Creative and unique interventions to meet patient needs

Inpatient Treatment

Our clinical program staff works closely with the patient, family, and community professionals to plan an aggressive course of treatment which allows transition into a less restrictive level of treatment as quickly as possible. Our therapeutic programming includes individual, group, and family therapy with emphasis on:

  • Patient self-determination and empowerment
  • Daily medication evaluation and education
  • Treatment tailored to level of functioning and degree of illness
  • Clarification and coordination of outpatient and community treatment systems

Partial Hospitalization

  • Partial hospitalization patients require intensive, stable support and structure, and yet do not need 24-hour supervision.
  • This level of care may be appropriate when outpatient treatment is not sufficient to meet the level of acuity, or as a transition from inpatient treatment to help reintegrate the individual into a home environment.
  • Resolution and stabilization of acute illness are provided while allowing the patient to live at home.
  • Treatment is available up to 8 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • The patient's schedule is flexible according to the clinical needs and the requirements of work and home life.
