My name is Cynthia D. Smith although most people know me as Dicey Smith. I am licensed as an advance practice nurse with certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Psychiatric Mental Health. My undergraduate degree was obtained from Louisiana State University and my Master's in Psychiatric Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington. I have 34 years of experience in psychiatric nursing, beginning my professional career in a mental health clinic and advancing through the ranks over the years to administrative positions. I served as the Director of Nursing Service for Millwood Hospital for 25 years before changing roles to focus on regulatory standards compliance. During the 1990s I was involved with the start-up operation of five new hospitals in Texas for my corporation. I presently serve as the Director of The Excel Center for Children and Adolescents while also serving as the advance practice assessment nurse. My love of psychiatry has been with me since my days as a student nurse in Louisiana, where I also developed my love of Cajun cooking and eating! I presently also serve as a preceptor for advanced practice nursing students for the UTA School of Nursing.
