Therapy Services
Compass Hospital offers occupational and physical therapy as well as speech language pathology.
Therapy services are available six days a week. Patients are initially seen bedside and progress to the therapy gym as their endurance increases. Duration of therapy sessions depends on the patient's ability to tolerate activity. An average therapy session lasts 30 to 45 minutes.
Our therapists take a gentle but assertive approach toward maximizing each individual's functional potential.
Occupational therapy
Occupational therapy addresses difficulties that prevent the patient from performing the activities of daily living. The focus is on restoring the skills needed to dress, bathe and feed one's self. Patients learn to use equipment and/or energy conservation techniques that simplify self-care tasks.
Physical therapy
Physical therapy addresses the patient's mobility through gait training, therapeutic exercise and balance activities. Physical therapy trains patients on use of assistive devices to improve their ability to move safely at home and/or in the community.
Speech language pathology
Speech language pathology provides treatment for communication, swallowing and cognitive impairments related to acute, chronic and progressive illnesses. Treatments are designed to take patients to their highest functional level. We also provide Vitalstim Neuromuscular electrical stimulation to those patients with swallowing problems whom may benefit from it.
