Sunflower Program for Adolescent Girls
The
Sunflower Program is a specialized residential unit for girls ages 12 to 18
who are placed by the Departments of Child Services, Probation or Education.
We help our residents find direction in their lives and cultivate their inner
strengths, giving them the structure and support they have often been missing
in their lives.
This program facilitates up to 15 girls at a time, encouraging empowerment
through skill-building and dealing with psychological issues. The programming
addresses key issues for female adolescents: self-esteem, teen pregnancy, STDs,
and healthy ways of expressing emotions. The residents also learn essential
life skills, including identifying appropriate boundaries, acquiring social
skills, and effectively managing day-to-day tasks. The Sunflower Program complements
our existing PRTF/Medicaid residential programs for male and female adolescents.
