Geriatric Inpatient Treatment
The Senior Care program at Brentwood Hospital
in Shreveport is designed for the treatment of older adults who have a primary
psychiatric diagnosis meeting the criteria for medically supervised inpatient
treatment. Patients must be medically stable and able to participate in treatment.
Patients receive excellent care and treatment by experienced staff.

- Psychiatric evaluation

- Nursing Assessment by a Registered Nurse
- History and Physical exam by a physician
- Dietary Consultation by a Registered Dietician
- Medical/Surgical Consultation Physician
- Psychological Screening and/or Testing Psychologist
- Neuropsychological Evaluation Psychologist
- Therapeutic Recreation by a Therapist
- Individual/Family/Group Therapy by Social
Services Staff
- Continuing Care Planning by the Treatment
Team
- Chemical Dependency Assessment by an Addictions
Counselor
Therapy Groups
Patients are involved in specific therapy groups
according to their needs and levels of care.
- Daily Community Group - conducted by
staff to enhance the patient’s ability to function in social settings with
others.
- Education or Lecture Group - by a Nurse,
Social Worker, Physician, or counselor. Topics may include medication education,
grief, humor, self-talk, and self-help.
- Process Groups - provide an opportunity
for patients to give input on their treatment plan, receive feedback from
the treatment team, and other patients.
- Creative Therapy - gives patients opportunities
for self expression. Therapeutic Recreation is provided by a certified therapist
for leisure counseling and developing effective life skills.
