Academics - Recreation Therapy
Academics
Educational services are
provided within the hospital through a regionally accredited school. Each patient
participates in an individual education plan designed to advance them toward
current and future academic goals. A wide variety of academic and vocational
courses are offered. Class sizes are small and special education assistance
is available. A vocational transition program is in place to assist the resident
in making a successful transition. Individual study time is set aside daily
to ensure completion of scholastic assignments. There are tutors and other staff
assistance available during study time.
Recreation Therapy
Therapeutic recreational
services provide the resident with tools to enhance self-esteem, confidence,
and courage. Skills are learned and developed through games, sports, healthy
leisure alternatives, interactive team activities, arts, music, and crafts.
The skills learned are then applied toward resolution of real-life difficulties.
