Residential Treatment Services
The Residential Treatment Center program provides long-term care for male and female adolescents 6 through 18 years old with severe emotional and behavioral problems. The mission of the program is to consistently provide rehabilitation and treatment to psychologically challenged adolescents and their families in a therapeutic setting. The length of stay can range from a few months to a year or longer.
The Residential Treatment program resides in two separate units totaling 45 beds. The 35-bed unit is for adolescents ranging from 13-18 years old. The 10-bed unit is for younger and/or developmentally delayed children ranging from 6-12 years old. The separate units allow for specific programming for each age group.
The program teaches five basic values: safety, daily living skills, respect, responsibility, and learning. These values are incorporated into daily activities and used as therapeutic tools to help residents develop healthy relationships with others. Residents also learn to negotiate social roles, follow rules, and adapt to the expectations of the adult world. Role play helps them practice positive social skills such as active listening, problem solving, and assertive expression of needs and feelings.
The program goals are:
- to empower residents in their recovery by educating them about their own individual mental health needs,
- to provide a safe environment that fosters an atmosphere of trust and respect, and
- to help develop certain abilities that can bring about change like
- understanding that thoughts and feelings relate directly to risk behaviors,
- learning to regulate responses to situations and others, and
- using coping skills to control and alter negative behaviors.
The program outcome goals are that residents and their families will develop the skills and resources necessary for a successful transition to a less restrictive setting.
