Intensive Outpatient Addiction Program
Philosophy
Alliance Health Center feels that a structured group setting is beneficial
to an individual who has a diagnosis of substance abuse or substance depedence
and is medically stable enought to attend on an outpatient basis.
Goal
The goal of the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is to help the chemically
dependent person gain knowledge and insight into addiction, recovery and relapse.
The patient will become comfortable in sharing honestly and openly in a group
setting. We emphasize the fact that the IOP program does not take the place
of the respective support group (Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous).
Program Description
The 10-week program is designated to give the chemically dependent patient
education and support until they become comfortable with life on life's terms,
free from mood-altering chemicals. This will be accomplished through various
therapies, including:
- Group therapy: A certified chemical dependency counselor will facilitate
the groups. Group sessions will be held three times a week with a total of
30 sessions over the course of the program. Each session will consist of a
one-hour educational group and a one-hour process group. Progress notes will
be kept in the patient's file to show attendance and progress towards goals
and objectives. A Licensed Professional Counselor will review each patient's
file once a month to ensure appropriate care and program.
- Individual therapy: Each patient will be required to attend a one-hour individual
therapy session each week with the IOP counselor. A progress note form will
be used to document each session in the patient's file.
- Family therapy: Two one-hour family therapy sessions will be held during
the 10-week program. Each patient will be required to have his or her spouse
or significant other (a friend if no one else is available) attend this session.
- Journaling: A personal journal will be provided each patient at Session
I and will be used throughout the program. Successful completion requires
that the personal journal be complete and turned in to the IOP counselor.
On successful completion fo the IOP program, a certificate of successful completion
will be prepared and presented to the patient. If the patient requests, and
signs appropriate release documents, progress reports, and records of attendance
may be released to employers or EAP contractors.
