Overview

The Bella Vita at BHC Alhambra Hospital is a closely monitored, 24 hour 7 day a week structured treatment program designed for patients who have transitioned from a recent hospitalization for medical stabilization or as a preventive measure for those patients who are displaying signs of escalation.

The program is tailored to the specific needs of the individual suffering from anorexia or bulimia, embracing the philosophy that on going recovery requires an understanding of underlying causes and replacement of dysfunctional behaviors with healthy tools for nurturing the self, both physically and emotionally.

BHC Alhambra is accredited by the Joint Commission and licensed by the State of California Department of Health Services.

Levels of Care

Inpatient Stabilization: Rapid stabilization and intensive preventive care include medical and professional nurses monitoring vital signs, laboratory test results, starvation effects and purging and non-purging behaviors with focus on the individual's emotional and nutritional goals.

Eating Disorders Partial Hospitalization Program: Structured, 8 hour 6 day a week treatment program designed to ensure continued success in combating anorexia and/or bulimia with a focus on the individual's emotional and nutritional goals while attending therapeutic and educational groups.

Eating Disorders Intensive Outpatient Program: Structured, 4 hour 6 day a week program, a transition from the partial hospitalization program

Curriculum
Our eating disorder curriculum includes individualized aggressive therapies, family therapy, weekly family education groups, and nutritional education helping patients set clear goals to deal with the emotional and physical components of anorexia and bulimia. In addition to individual and family therapy, aftercare (such as ANAD, 12 step meetings, etc.) is highly recommended and vitally important to ongoing recovery.

Collaborative Treatment
Effectiveness of treatment is promoted through team communication and the strong involvement of the attending psychiatrist in directing care and evaluating results. We work closely with care managers to ensure measurable documented goals that the patient is committed to achieving.
