Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center

Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center (VBPC), a freestanding hospital located in Virginia Beach, Virginia offers acute psychiatric and substance abuse services for children, adolescents, and adults. One of the hospital's unique components is a Mobile Assessment Team. Clinicians from the team can be triaged to local hospitals, emergency rooms, medical offices, schools and businesses for on-site crisis evaluation.

Center for Emotional Recovery (CER)
This program is designed to therapeutically address the patient's current emotional crisis while focusing on deficits in their ability to achieve autonomy. The specific needs of women are addressed through The Women's Center (TWC). The focus of treatment is to provide reparative help through cognitive psychotherapy, aggressive pharmacotherapy, and problem solving groups that are carried out within the limits of a well-structured, predictable therapeutic environment.

The Recovery Place (TRP)
This program is designed for the acute treatment of patients with emotional and psychoactive substance abuse disorders to provide a safe environment to stabilize and treat withdrawal and dual diagnosis issues while preparing the patient for the recovery process. The focus of treatment is on the treatment resistant patient's acute symptoms or maladaptation demanding rapid relief, strengthening of internal and external support system, and adaptive resolution of acute crisis based upon a basic understanding of underlying psychopathology and addictive components. A Detox program provides a safe environment for achieving medical detoxification from drugs and alcohol. The setting is a 12-step model with a focus on medical management, introduction to the disease process, and transition into the next most appropriate level of care.

Stabilizing the child's behavior as rapidly as possible to allow the functioning in a less structured environment, and facilitating placement in the least restrictive environment for a continuum of care. An intensive treatment program is available for the adolescent in crisis.

Partial Hospitalization
These programs are designed to treat psychiatric and substance abuse patients who are able to tolerate the less intensive structure of a day program, and have support outside the treatment environment.
