The Pines Residential Treatment Center
The Young Women's Center

The Young Women's Center provides gender specific, structured and nurturing treatment to adolescent girls with psychiatric diagnoses combined with behavioral problems. Designed to be holistic by integrating the mind, body and spirit, the Young Women's Center incorporates traditional therapeutic and holistic interventions that integrate the mind, body, and spirit by utilizing meditation and expressive therapies for relaxation. The Young Women's Center is passionate about providing an environment for young women to heal and flourish.

Many of the residents of the Young Women's Center have experienced trauma, such as the loss of a caregiver, multiple foster placements, abandonment, and physical and/or sexual abuse. Young women developing in abusive and violent environments generally experience overwhelming feelings of rejection, of being unlovable and unloved. The program carefully combines group and individual therapies with a strong educational and recreational program to enhance the treatment of the "whole person."

The young women of the program will participate in the following:

  • Gender-specific groups emphasizing cultural, social, political, and economic issues facing women.
  • Treatment services for non-offender psychosexual/sexually reactive disorders.
  • Morning exercises for better physical and emotional health.
  • Art therapy.
  • Expressive therapy groups (Steps to Success).
  • Positive Adolescent Choices Training (PACT).
  • Survivors group for residents living with the aftermath of sexual abuse.
  • Relapse Prevention and Thinking Errors Groups.
  • Chemical Dependency Groups.
  • Community Reintegration.

The program helps the young women formulate a more adaptive response to their trauma, improve body image and self esteem, and increase their understanding of boundaries. The program also hopes to limit the use of medications.

Female residents have the opportunity to participate in Girls Gaining Ground track. Designed to inspire and enhance the resourcefulness and creativity of its residents, this multiphase program helps residents  to acquire, develop and implement skill sets necessary to live independently. Residents will utilize a four-room apartment style space to practice newly acquired skills.
