The Pines Residential Treatment Center The WINGS Program (Women In Need of Guidance and
Support) is a gender-specific, structured program that specifically addresses
impulse control problems exhibited by adolescent females. This program is
designed for adolescent females between the ages of 13-17 with a history of
treatment failures at various levels of care. The WINGS Program responds to the need for gender
specific programming. Girls with disorders of affect, self-destructive behaviors
and aggression often present with different clinical pictures than boys with
similar behavioral disorders. The WINGS Program provides treatment specific to
the unique difficulties and etiology related to girls. The girls are provided with an array of clinical
formats including individual, group and family therapy. Interventions include
DBT, solution-focused, strengths and resiliency-based. The
relationships that the girls develop with all levels of staff provide the basis
for the development of future healthy relationships. Unlike most residential
programs, the WINGS Residential Treatment Counselors (RTC’s) are trained as
mentors. RTC’s, along with the treatment team provide residents with guidance,
one-to-one support, reinforcement and constructive life skills. Each residential
mentor has the training to provide support in a minimum of three ways: advice,
access and advocacy. In addition to the mentors’ sincere desire to work with
the residents, they work with the issues of respect, positive listening,
empathy, solution-focused resolution and resiliency. The program works to minimize the length of stay in
residential care by beginning discharge planning from the time of admission.
There is active planning between WINGS and community-based, step-down services
to facilitate reintegration into the community. Family-based interventions are
emphasized to ensure reintegration for those girls to biological or foster
families. Girls Accepted Into This Program May Exhibit Some of
the Following Characteristics: DSM-IV diagnosis on Axis I (conduct disorder not
the primary diagnosis) Designed for Females Youth Ages 13-17 with some of the following characteristics:
Accredited by: Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities and the Southern Association of Colleges and schools. |
