The Pines Residential Treatment Center Midlands

The Pines Residential Treatment Center Midlands Campus is located in West Columbia, South Carolina. This facility provides residential treatment and gender specific programming for male and female adolescents and youth ages 11 to 17. The New Horizons Female Program offers intensive residential treatment for adolescents with a psychiatric disorder and severe and complex problems in multiple areas of functioning. The Palmetto Point Program is designed for sexually aggressive adolescent females with a psychiatric diagnosis. The newly added KEYS Program is a co-ed program designed for adolescents who suffer primarily from significant mental illness, emotional disturbance, and disruptive behaviors.

New Horizons Female Program

New Horizons Female Program provides general psychiatric and behavioral treatment services for adolescents ages 11 to 17 with an Axis I or Axis II psychiatric disorder. As a result of the disorder, behavioral problems such as violence, aggressiveness, running away, property destruction, harming/threatening harm to self or others, and other severe behavioral and affective disturbances may be present. The severity of their problems requires that services be delivered in a residential setting, with awake supervision 24 hours a day. The approach to assessment and treatment of adolescents is an individualized psychosocial and developmental perspective. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is incorporated into some of the group counseling sessions. Treatment is provided by a multidisciplinary treatment team. A major goal of treatment is to move the adolescent toward significant improvement in order to allow placement or return to a less restrictive environment when discharged.

New Horizons Female Program is Designed for Females Ages 11-17:

Palmetto Point Program

Palmetto Point is a 14-bed residential treatment program for moderate to high risk sexually reactive preadolescent and adolescent females with a psychiatric disorder. Designed for females ages 11 to 17.5, Palmetto Point utilizes the Solutions Focused Therapy Approach to treatment. Females admitted into residential treatment usually present with an array of difficult life experiences, which may include a history of physical and/or sexual abuse, depression, running away, drug addictions, and physical and/or sexual aggression. It is the goal of the treatment program to explore the residents’ history of abuse, victimization of others, and triggers for victimization, and help them to learn or increase empathy and alternate methods of emotional expression that do not cause harm to the resident or others.

  • Who are disruptive and have been removed from home or prior placements due to sexually aggressive behavior

  • Sexually aggressive girls who require a comprehensive long-term and intensive offense-specific treatment

  • Sexually aggressive girls who require a psychiatric component to their treatment.

KEYS Program
