During the summer months, a seven to eight week enrichment program is held that allows students to participate in art, music, drama, cooking and sewing activities.

The Waypoint Program

The Waypoint Program provides residential treatment to male adolescents who require comprehensive, long-term and intensive treatment. Adolescents served at this program are between the ages of 13 and 17 and are sexually aggressive with psychiatric needs. Waypoint emphasizes comprehensive diagnostic assessment, evaluation, and treatment planning for the purpose of providing individualized residential treatment for these males. The program is able to admit adolescent males who are in need of varying lengths of stay. A multidisciplinary treatment team treats and supports the adolescents throughout the program.

Waypoint’s philosophy includes a strong belief in the adolescent’s accountability and responsibility for his behavior. The program’s guiding principle is to provide effective specialized treatment with regard and respect for community safety in addition to the rights, welfare, cultural background, and dignity of each resident. This process includes a progressive and dynamic process of assessing risk for sexual re-offense and other barriers to success for the purposes of effective treatment and discharge planning.

Waypoint is Designed for Males Ages 13-17 with:

  • Diagnosis of significant psychosexual disorder as evidenced by paraphiliac behaviors

  • DSM IV diagnosis of psychiatric illness (see list under Summit Program)

  • A history of disruption and removal from prior placements due to sexually aggressive behavior.

Focus is placed on areas such as behavior/ conduct, mood, attachment, trauma, family systems, self-development, learning factors and biological antecedents. Summit is able to meet the unique needs of each resident regardless of their length of stay by offering short/brief, moderate and long-term clinical programming.  Treatment focus, clinical interventions and treatment deliverables/ outcomes vary for each resident. The short-term program focuses on the formulation of a comprehensive psychiatric assessment along with a detailed plan identifying recommendations for each resident.  The program is designed to meet the needs of residents for lengths of stay from one to four months.
